Turn a clock into art for your wall!

Hello!

It has been a few days, hasn't it? I am so proud of this next project and I do not even know why! We are having a garage sale (combined with my parents) and I have been decluttering our home. In the process of this I came across this:

I love this clock! I got it at hobby lobby for $3 on clearance. Sadly this clock fell of the wall and broke. I took out the clock mecanism on the back, and took off the clock hands. So sadly it is just a wooden block that looks like it might have been a clock at one time.
So...I got inspired! I took out my scrapbook paper and got to work! The clock was actually the size of a scrapbook page, so I came out lucky there.
Then I went to google and typed in "Bird Template" (because I love birds)and the 3rd or 4th one was perfect! So I printed it out and took white card stock and my trusted exacto knife and cut around the template. I used permanent tape to secure all part into place. I did this because it sticks well and (even thought is says permanent) you can just tear off the paper and start over if you change your room decore! This project took me literally 15 minutes and I love it! Also, it cost my nothing. It was absolutely FREE!!!
I am going to hang this up on the wall as soon as I get around to it, but for now I took a picture of it next to my favorite lamp! Let me know what you think of it or let me know if you try something like it! I'd be interested to see pictures!
Here is mine:
and a close up:

Ok and Lastly
I have this mirror:
If anyone has an Cheap ideas on what I can do with this mirror I would appreciate it! I have been thinking about it a lot and I can think of tons of things, but nothing cheap. If I cant think of anything it is going into my jun 20th garage sale. I really don't want to sell it but It is clutter and if I cant find a way to turn it into something my style, then I am going to have to sell it! So if you can help me let me know. Direct me to a blog with a project like it, or any help you can come up with, I would appreciate!

Happy Crafting!

  3. That is really cute! You did a good job.

To make the tacks you need to buy a pack of buttons to cover. It will either come with metal or plastic buttons and the little plastic thing that you push the button through with...

I probably did a bad job of explaining that. I already had those buttons laying around, and had some old ones that I got from my grandma, so I didn't have to go buy any. I'm sure JoAnn Fabrics has something.

    This tutorial should help:

  4. I like what you did with the clock. I don't know if you've already found a use for the hands and clockworks, but there's a really cool idea for making clocks out of recycled cd's on dollarstorecrafts.
As for the mirror, currently the only thing I've thought of is etching some design or pic onto the glass, but the initial investment in etching cream isn't free. I can't wait to see what you do with it, if you do something! I have a little mirror that has a gold frame, and i'm planning to paint the frame white to match the furniture in our son's room, but i haven't thought beyond that yet. Hm. Boring. ;)

  5. Ohhhh, what a FAB project on the clock, LOVE IT! Now, for the mirror...if it was mine I would paint the frame black and find a wall for it. But that is just me:)

  6. This is the first time I have been to your blog. I found it through Thrifty Decor Chick. I've seen pictures on other blogs, not sure which ones, where they painted the mirror frame and then used the vinyl letter quotes on the mirror part and it turned out really cute.

  7. Clay and I have a mirror that looked kind of like that. When we repainted our table and chairs, we painted it the same color. It's in our dining room. You can kind of see them all in this post: http://katyandclay.blogspot.com/2008/10/happy-birthday-toby-rex.html

A little paint makes for a simple change. You could probably get buy just buy getting one of the sample paint containers from Lowes since it's not that big.
